Field Sketching Workshop

Get outside, observe and learn about the natural history around Talkeetna. Participants will learn a variety of field sketching techniques including observational drawing, watercolor painting, and tips for capturing the landscape and information on paper. By learning new ways to study surroundings, sharing, and building on working methods, workshop participants will come away better equipped to appreciate and experience natural environments. The course will include both classroom time and field excursions and is suitable for all levels. Students will bring home their own sketchbook filled with artwork from the course. A materials list will be provided to students, or kits will be available from the instructor for an additional $45.
Kristin Link is a science illustrator and artist living in McCarthy, AK. She has been working as a freelance illustrator since completing a graduate certificate in science illustration from CSU Monterey Bay in 2010. Her field sketches and artwork have been exhibited at museums and galleries around Alaska including the Alaska State Museum in Juneau. She has completed projects for Alaska Geographic, the National Park Service, the Copper River Watershed Project, and Alaska’s public arts program. Field sketching is one of Kristin’s favorite ways to learn about and explore her surroundings and she enjoys sharing her process with students of all ages.
